A 72-year-old man is lucky to be alive after his hang glider crashed near Tamworth yesterday.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by Ambulance New South Wales at 3pm on Wednesday afternoon following reports that a hang glider had come down 10km south of Barraba on Manila Road.

“NSW Ambulance Paramedics and the Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team treated and stabilised the 72-year-old male for shoulder and arm injuries before being airlifted to Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital  in a stable condition for further treatment,” the Westpac Rescue crew said in a statement.
