62-year-old arrested for stalking child

A 62-year-old man has been charged after approaching an 11-year-old girl in Nowra this week.

Police say that at about 4.20pm on Monday, the girl was riding her skateboard on a path between Riverview Road and the Shoalhaven River, when she was approached by a man.

The man allegedly spoke to the girl, before approaching her for a second time in a utility a short time later.

The incident was reported to officers from South Coast Police District who commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries and a public appeal, detectives attended a Nowra address about 3.15pm yesterday and spoke with a man.

The 62-year-old was arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station where he was charged with stalk or intimidate intending to cause fear of physical or mental harm.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Nowra Local Court on October 12.
