Healthy Bones Australia recently celebrated 21 years of protecting Aussie bones.
The organisation hosted a special event in Sydney in the lead up to World Osteoporosis Day and gathered bone researchers, consumer advocates and representatives from national organisations to mark the milestone.
Chairman Professor Peter Ebeling said, “As recently as 20 years ago, bone health was a largely overlooked, and untreated area. It is now recognised as an important chronic disease, and a health priority area for Australia.”
Healthy Bones Australia continues to expand the national Know Your Bones program, which is an online self-assessment developed with the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.
The tool is a simple first step to help Australians understand potential risk for developing osteoporosis. Know Your Bones Ambassador, Michelle Bridges, has been helping raise awareness about the program and says
“My message is simple. Your bone health is an important part of your overall health,” she said.
“So check your bone health today by completing the Know Your Bones online assessment.”
More than 98,000 adults have completed the assessment and Healthy Bones Australia is encouraging more adults to use the online tool.
