Design revealed for new Bendigo rehabilitation centre

New designs have been unveiled for a $59.5 million day rehabilitation facility at Bendigo Hospital – promising Central Victorians access to world-class facilities to support their health and physical wellbeing.

Minister for Health, Martin Foley today unveiled designs for the state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility and announced Alchemy Construct as the contractor to complete the project’s early construction works.

“This significant investment will mean Central Victorians can easily access the high-quality rehabilitation and allied
health services they need for their recovery journey – in a modern, state-of-the-art facility,” said Minister Foley.

The designs reveal a first look at the exterior, grounds, hydrotherapy pool, and internal fit outs of the
multimillion-dollar facility – promising a welcoming, safe and healing atmosphere for patients, their carers and
families.

Delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority, the investment includes a new hydrotherapy pool and brings
outpatient rehabilitation, allied health, dental, mental health, renal dialysis, breast screening and diabetes
education services under the one roof.

Central Victorians will be able to access a team of health professionals all in one place to help them recover from
accidents, injuries and medical conditions, such as a stroke or heart attack, while providing a holistic and patient-centred approach to rehabilitation and care.

Bendigo Health’s ageing East and North Wing tower buildings, built in 1958 and 1972 will be demolished, and the
area will be converted to open green space for patients, visitors, and staff to enjoy.

Existing services will be relocated to the newly refurbished Phillips and Hyett blocks located at the Bendigo
Hospital’s Lucan Street campus.

The project is expected to create around 180 jobs during construction.

With early works now underway, the day rehabilitation centre is expected to be complete in mid-2023.

“This investment will ensure locals recovering from accidents or injuries have the best rehab services close to home and under the one roof,” said Member for Bendigo East, Jacinta Allan.

“The new day rehabilitation facility is going to be the final piece in the Bendigo Health precinct redevelopment –
completing an important project for our local community that we are very excited to see finished,” Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards said.
