NZ records new mystery COVID case

New Zealand’s Ministry of Health has asked all Kiwis who live or work in Auckland’s CBD to stay home tomorrow as further details emerge of a mystery case of COVID-19 within the community.

The case is a young female student of Auckland’s University of Technology. She reportedly began experiencing COVID-19 symptoms on Monday but continued going to work at her customer-facing job, despite being tested for coronavirus and being told to isolate at home.

It’s understood the woman’s manager told her to come to work, and wear a mask – ignoring clear health advice.

The Ministry of Health says the woman lived alone in a large block of apartments in the city.

All residents in the building have been asked to stay home until they have been tested.

Authorities say the woman also took a number of Ubers to her job, and frequently bought takeaway food while symptomatic.

“Her positive test was confirmed this morning, 12 November. She is being moved to the Auckland quarantine facility today,” the Ministry said.

“This is another very important reminder that if you are unwell with cold symptoms, you should get a test and stay at home until you have a negative test result.”

Auckland Regional Public Health is interviewing the woman today to identify close and casual contacts, and to further understand her movements during the period she may have been infectious.

New Zealand currently has 53 active coronavirus cases.
