COVID-hit nursing home CEO’s heartbreak at death of fourth resident

A fourth resident of Sydney’s Wyoming Aged Care facility COVID-19 cluster has died overnight, with management of the home breaking the news to residents and their families in a heartbreaking letter.

In the letter, Chief Executive of the aged care facility, Rob Oxford, passes on his condolences to the woman’s loved ones.

“We at Wyoming Nursing Home are very sad to inform you that one of our much-loved residents passed away overnight after being transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital on August 2,” he writes.

“We pass on our condolences to her family and friends and would like them to know she was under specialist care in her final days.”

He said a deep clean of Wyoming Nursing Home, “utilising specialist cleaners” had been completed and the facility was now working with NSW Health to finalise a schedule for the return of residents, commencing on August 21.

“Meanwhile all staff are onsite today for education and training and will be assisting [today] to ensure that the facility is ready to receive residents on Saturday.”

“As we have previously detailed, our residents in the home continue to reside in local hospitals (Concord, Royal Prince Alfred, Royal North Shore Hospital, Prince of Wales, Sutherland Hospital and St Vincents) as a precautionary measure to protect their health and are under expert care.

“We apologise for this disruption to you and our residents, but their health and well-being continue to be our major priority.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding during this very difficult time and we are sure you would like to pass on your condolences to our late resident’s family and friends. She will be sorely missed by us all.”

The resident’s death was one of four COVID-related deaths announced by NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian today.
