It’s hoped a Victorian COVID-19 aged care outbreak has been averted after follow-up testing of an elderly man at a Hoppers Crossing facility returned a negative result after an initial positive test for the virus.
The Mecwacare John Atchison Centre in Hoppers Crossing was on high alert yesterday following the return of the man from a hospital to the facility, where upon he tested positive to COVID-19.
It was reportedly a ‘weak positive’ result. He has since tested negative. The man had been fully vaccinated against the virus.
Residents and staff of the 101-bed home were placed into immediate isolation upon receiving the news of the man’s initial test result. The facility has been deep-cleaned as a precaution, management said in a statement.
Victoria has recorded 14 new locally-acquired cases yesterday, and a further 14 cases today – with four believed to be infectious while out and about in the community.
