Call for civic-minded Queenslanders to join health board

The Queensland Government has put the call out for civic-minded North West Queenslanders who want to help shape the future of their region’s health services.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said all board positions at the North West Hospital and Health Service, including chair and deputy chair, were now being advertised. The positions have been vacant since June 2021 following the appointment of former Queensland Health Director-General Michael Walsh as Administrator, amid concerns around sustainable governance and financial management at NWHHS.

“This is an excellent opportunity for people who want to make a difference to their community,” the Minister said.

“North West Hospital and Health Service delivers world-class health care to a remote and wonderfully diverse region.

“By joining the Hospital and Health Board, you will be helping to shape the future of health services in the region.

“The board has a range of responsibilities, including governing the HHS, managing its finances, land, buildings and staff, and working with local stakeholders like mayors and councillors to ensure the needs of locals are being met.

“The role is stimulating, challenging and rewarding. We encourage people of all backgrounds to apply.”

Queensland’s 16 HHSs are governed by a Board and report to the Minister for Health and Ambulance Services.

All boards are responsible under the Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011 for local performance of their health service and the delivery of public health services within their communities.
