Toyota vehicle recall expanded

Toyota Australia has today announced an expansion of its safety recall that was originally issued in March last year.

Toyota says the recall expansion takes in an additional 367 Toyota vehicles – including Corolla, Camry, FJ Cruiser, HIACE, Kluger, Hilux, LC200 and Prado models – produced between April 2018 and November 2018. It says the vehicles are equipped with a fuel pump which “may stop operating”.

“If this were to occur, warning lights and messages may display on the instrument panel, and the engine may not run smoothly. This can result in a vehicle stall, and the vehicle may not restart. If a vehicle stall occurs while driving at higher speeds, this could increase the risk of a collision,” Toyota said in a media release.

For all involved vehicles, it says Toyota dealers will replace the fuel pump free of charge for owners.

“It is expected that it will take approximately 1.5 hours to replace the fuel pump. However, based on the Dealer’s work schedule, it may be necessary for the owner to make the vehicle available for a longer period of time,” Toyota said.

“Toyota Australia will provide all owners of involved vehicles details of this safety recall campaign by SMS, email and mail to their last known mobile number, email or postal address. Owners are asked to keep their contact details up to date with Toyota so future communications can be received.”

Owners with additional questions are asked to please contact their local/preferred Toyota Dealer in the first instance or the Toyota Recall Campaign Helpline on 1800 987 366 (Mon-Fri 8am to 6pm AEST).
