The rollout of COVID-19 vaccine doses for people aged over 50 will be fast-tracked next month as National Cabinet works to reset Australia’s vaccination program.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced that over 50s will be able to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine from May 3.
He said Pfizer’s vaccine remained the preferred option for those aged under 50, frontline and quarantine staff and aged and disability care workers eligible under the 1A and 1B rollout.
National Cabinet yesterday also agreed to limit flight arrivals from India, after the nation set a new global record for COVID-19 infections with 314,000 new cases recorded on Thursday.
Meanwhile, close to 68,000 Australians received vaccinations in the last 24 hours, with 1.8 million Australians now having received a vaccination dose.
