Online security guide for Seniors released

An internet security guide for Seniors has been released by the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) as part of Cyber Security Awareness Month.

During the month of October, Australians are being urged to act now and protect themselves from cyber threats.

One cybercrime is reported to the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) every eight minutes. As cybercriminals increase their attacks against Australians, the ACSC has launched new Personal Security Guides to help Australians boost their cyber defences.

Cybercriminals are constantly on the hunt for poorly secured devices and accounts to exploit, which is why staying cyber secure is so important, the ACSC said in a statement.

The How to Use the Internet Securely – A Guide for Seniors resource has also been launched to provide additional support to older Australians who may be more vulnerable to cyber threats.

“Going online lets you keep in touch with friends and family, learn about topics and even play games,” the ACSC says.

“Just like fastening your seatbelt before driving, you should take steps before using the internet to be more secure. We want to make sure everyone is secure when they’re online.”
