A man has been charged with manslaughter after the death of an elderly man who was allegedly tackled in Sydney’s inner south earlier this week.
In a statement, NSW Police said that on Wednesday, they were notified that a man had been critically injured during an incident the previous day in Alexandria.
Officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command were told the 75-year-old man had been banging on a parked van with his hands on Huntley Street when another man allegedly restrained and tackled him about 1.50pm on Tuesday.
The 75-year-old was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.
Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 51-year-old man on George Street, Waterloo, about 4pm yesterday.
After the arrest police were notified the 75-year-old man had died in hospital.
The 51-year-old was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with manslaughter.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 7 today.
