Million-dollar makeover for Buchan

A streetscape in the East Gippsland town of Buchan will be upgraded thanks to $1.4 million in Federal Government funding through the Local Economic Recovery Program.

The $2.9 million project will involve reconfiguring the roads to optimise parking, landscaping, and the installation of street furniture to add the appeal of the area.

The installation of shared paths will link the main street to the well-known Buchan Caves campsite and the recreation reserve to improve the cohesiveness of the town.

“Investing in better facilities on public land is good for tourism and the liveability of our local communities,” said Member for Gippsland, Darren Chester.

“Further investment in infrastructure like shared pathways, exercise tracks and bike trails in Buchan will complement natural attractions and boost local jobs.”

East Gippsland Shire Council is currently consulting with the community to look at a detailed design on the link between Buchan Caves and the main street.

This project is a partnership between Federal, State and Local Government.
