Lost boaties set to dock in Goolwa

Two men feared dead after going missing in waters off the South Australian coast a week ago are expected to dock – alive and well – in Goolwa in the next hour.

57-year-old Tony Higgins and 48-year-old Derek Robinson left Coffin Bay on the Eyre Peninsula in a 10-metre fishing boat a week ago, but reported engine trouble to a friend last Friday night, telling the friend they were diverting to Kangaroo Island to further investigate the fault.

The men were not heard from again, with a friend raising the alarm on Sunday.

Emergency personnel spent four days searching more than 103,000 square kilometres south of Port Lincoln from the sea and air but found no trace of the men or their vessel.

South Australia police called off the search around 8pm on Wednesday.

At around 10pm last night, the men made contact with police who later located the men and their boat stranded in Salt Creek.

Water police headed out this morning, with the men’s boat now being towed to Goolwa.
