Daughter’s loss leads to legacy gift

In the tapestry of life, there are moments that define us – moments of courage, compassion, and unwavering resilience. For Chloe Karis, this moment came at the tender age of 13 when cancer turned her world upside down, taking her father’s life, and with it, the innocence of childhood.

Yet, amidst her grief, Chloe found a beacon of hope in the form of Canteen, a youth cancer charity dedicated to supporting young people facing the unimaginable.

“I lost my teen years entirely to cancer. I was just 13 when my dad was diagnosed and then ultimately passed away. Turning to Canteen changed everything and I was finally able to connect with people who understood what I was going through. I believe so much in Canteen, that I’ve chosen to leave a gift in my Will so I can help young people like me into the future,” says Canteen youth ambassador, Chloe.

Chloe’s journey is one of courage and conviction, a testament to the transformative power of community and the indomitable spirit of youth.

As she navigated the challenges of caregiving, balancing school and hospital visits with a maturity beyond her years, Chloe discovered a lifeline in Canteen. Here, surrounded by peers who understood her journey and embraced her with open arms, she found solace, support, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Today, Chloe stands as a shining example of resilience, a testament to the transformative impact of Canteen’s support services. Through counselling, programs, and recreation days, young people like Chloe are given the tools they need to find life in the face of cancer.

From building coping skills to fostering resilience, Canteen’s holistic approach empowers young people to reclaim their futures and find joy in the face of uncertainty.

Chloe, a budding journalist and passionate concertgoer, now wants to give back and pay the goodwill forward. As a youth ambassador for Canteen, she’s dedicated herself to ensuring that every young person facing cancer receives the same life changing support that she did. And now, as the face of Canteen’s ‘Free Wills Week,’ Chloe is leading by example, practicing what she preaches and committing to leaving a legacy of hope for future generations.

As we reflect on our own legacy and the impact we want to leave behind, there’s no better time to consider the power of a gift in your Will. Your legacy has the power to change lives – not just for today, but for generations to come. By including Canteen in your Will, you will be investing in the future of young Australians facing cancer, ensuring that they have access to the support and resources they need to thrive.

During Free Wills Week, from March 18th to 24th, we invite you to join us in building a brighter tomorrow for young people impacted by cancer. By leaving a gift in your Will, you’ll be making a powerful commitment to the next generation, ensuring that no young person faces cancer alone.
