Australia Post is celebrating the New Year with a special edition set of stamps and collectables to commemorate the Lunar Year of the Snake, available from today.
The range continues Australia Post’s tradition of celebrating the Chinese Zodiac with beautifully designed stamps that capture the essence of the Year of the Snake. Starting on 29 January 2025 and ending on 16 February 2026, the Snake is the sixth animal in the 12-year Chinese Zodiac cycle. People born under this sign are known for their wisdom, intelligence and enigmatic nature.
This year marks the fifth consecutive year of Lunar New Year designs by award-winning Sydney-based artist and illustrator Chrissy Lau. The new range features three unique snake designs that symbolise wealth and prosperity in the ancient Feng Shui traditions: the Feng Shui Gold Coin Snake, the Feng Shui Gold Ingot Snake, and the Feng Shui Money Tree Snake. The Lunar New Year collectables range includes a stamp pack, medallion cover and zodiac sheetlet.
Award-winning illustrator Chrissy Lau said: “It’s my fifth year designing Australia Post’s Lunar New Year stamps, and I’ve loved having the opportunity to share a piece of my heritage with the Australian community.
“The illustrations for this year’s Lunar Year of the Snake blend traditional Chinese culture with a modern twist, reflecting Australia’s diverse and contemporary culture. I hope these designs inspire the wider community to join in the Lunar New Year celebrations and celebrate the start of 2025.”
Also known as Spring Festival, Lunar New Year is seen as a time of renewal and an opportunity for families to come together, burn incense for ancestors, exchange gifts, and decorate their homes with lanterns. The celebrations conclude with the annual Lantern Festival.
