Jetstar has announced it will reinstate seasonal direct services between Cairns and Newcastle from December 18 when Queensland borders open.
Available from 11.30am today, the three-per-week service will be operated by A320 aircraft and is expected to carry close to 6,000 visitors between Cairns and Newcastle each month, delivering a significant tourism boost to both cities.
Jetstar is the only airline operating direct flights between the two popular destinations, with lead-in fares starting at $99 (one way).
The seasonal route was originally launched in June 2021 in partnership with the Queensland Government and was scheduled to operate until October 2021.
The route saw strong demand in both directions before it was suspended in September due to border restrictions.
