Fugitive Dezi Freeman shot dead by Police after seven-month manhunt

Victoria Police have reportedly shot dead fugitive, Dezi Freeman, 56, after more than six months on the run following the shooting of two Police officers at his Porepunkah home in August.

Police this morning confirmed a man had been killed at a rural property in Victoria’s northeast shortly after 8.30am.

Mr Freeman was wanted over the fatal shootings of police officers, Neal Thompson and Vadim de Waart-Hottart, who were gunned down as they attempted to serve a warrant at the fugitive’s home in late August.

Victoria Police said no police officers were injured during the incident on Monday.

“The state coroner will attend the scene and the investigation will be oversighted by Professional Standards Command, as per standard process for a police shooting,” a spokesperson told media.

“Further information will be released today as the situation develops.”
