COVID restrictions to remain until March

COVID-19 restrictions have been extended in NSW for a further month, Premier Dominic Perrottet has announced this morning.

The state recorded 29 deaths with COVID-19 and 18,512 new cases in the past 24 hours, while hospitalisations with the virus rose by 127 patients to 2,943.

In a media conference, the Premier said restrictions on hospitality venues and the mandatory wearing of face masks would be extended until late February as the state battles the Omicron outbreak.

He said continuing the COVID rules state-wide would help see the return of elective surgery by mid-February, confirming that the current public health settings would remain in place until at least Sunday, February 28.

There are currently 183 people in NSW hospital intensive care units – down from 196 yesterday.
