Calling all Goulburn history buffs

As preparations ramp up for the opening of the new Goulburn Performing Arts Centre, the city’s council is calling on local history buffs to share their photos of the region.

Councillor Alfie Walker says Council is on the hunt for historical images to be used as part of opening celebrations for the centre.

“We would like to incorporate the rich history of performing arts in our wider region as part of the  performance, and are planning to use multimedia projections as part of the performance,” Cr Walker said.

“The group is interested in any historical image related to the performing arts and history of our City  and region. Images of past performances, rehearsals, events and theatre groups are all of interest,  and we hope to get a strong response from the community.”

He said the opening weekend of performances for the new arts centre was being planned as an inclusive event, which will involve a number of groups and performers from the local community.

“We look forward to presenting a spectacular performance in February to highlight opening of the theatre.”

Construction of the 400 seat theatre in Auburn Street is nearing completion, as Zauner Construction move into final fit-out of the project.

The opening weekend for Goulburn Performing Arts Centre is scheduled for February 25-26 next year.

Images are able to be submitted over the counter at Civic Centre, 184 Bourke Street or submitted through Council’s website, at: www.goulburn.nsw.gov.au/Community/GPAC-Opening-Event
