Brock new king of the stamps

Legendary Holden driver Peter Brock has been recognised for his driving feats in a new release of stamps to mark the 50th anniversary of his inaugural Bathurst 500/1000 triumph.

The stamps present five of the iconic Holden cars driven by Peter Brock when he tackled the Mount Panorama circuit at Bathurst in NSW.

Widely regarded as the ‘King of the Mountain’ and ‘Peter Perfect’, the Holden legend conquered Bathurst a remarkable nine times between 1972 and 1987, setting an enviable record that may never be beaten.

During his illustrious racing career, Brock raced some of Holden’s most famous models, including the HK Monaro GTS 350, Torana XU-1, Torana L34, Torana A9X, Commodore VC and Commodore VL SS Group A.

Australia Post Group Manager Philatelic, Michael Zsolt said that as the 50th anniversary of Brock’s inaugural Bathurst 1000 triumph approaches, the new stamps look back and admire Brock’s extraordinary contribution to Australian motorsport.

“This stamp issue presents five of the iconic Holden cars driven by Peter Brock when he tackled the Mount Panorama circuit at Bathurst in New South Wales and won, thus contributing to his enviable record,” he said.

The legacy of Peter Brock will forever live on in Australian sporting culture, and his unrivalled talent and passion for the sport may never be seen again.

Chris Payne, General Manager, Chevrolet Racing said this weekend will feature some wonderful tributes including a Peter Brock display at Bathurst. Fans can come into the Harris Park precinct and enjoy seeing some of his cars again and just remember the great moments and memories Brock gave to us all.

“Sunday will be emotional for a lot of Holden fans as it will be the final time a Holden races in a Supercars event at Bathurst.”

“It would be an outstanding way to farewell Holden from ‘the Mountain’ if one of the Commodore drivers can add to the brand’s 35 race wins at the circuit,” he said.

The special Peter Brock collection features stamps, minisheets, first day cover, stamp pack, King of the Mountain stamp pack, maxicards, self-adhesive booklets and medallions and are available from participating Post Offices and online via www.auspost.com.au/shop/collectables for a limited time.
