Australia Post worker tests positive for COVID-19

Australia Post has closed its Sydney International Gateway Facility for 24 hours after a cleaner tested positive to COVID-19.

In a statement released this morning, Australia Post said its service teams at the facility were now undergoing testing and the site had been deep cleaned and sanitised.

“The safety of our employees and the community is our absolute priority. As a result of this temporary closure, there may be minimal impacts to International inbound and outbound letter and parcel deliveries,” Australia Post said.

It said domestic parcel processing and delivery in NSW timeframes would also be impacted.

“This is due to COVID-related staffing impacts including at our Chullora delivery facility.”

“We are continuing to work closely with the Department of Health and in-line with our COVIDsafe plans and government advice we have a number of measures in place including separate work zones, staggered start times, split shifts, social distancing and temperature testing in our facilities.

“We also have protective screens and density limits in our Post Offices, QR code check-ins for our workplaces in addition to on-site COVID-19 testing in areas that require it. Our people are also wearing face masks wherever they are required.”

Australia Post said it would continue to keep customers updated at auspost.com.au and via the Australia Post app.
