Anzac Day dawn services return

Queenslanders will mark this year’s Anzac Day with public events after commemorations were cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said dawn services, marches and public commemorations would return to the state for April 25.

“In times of strife, Queenslanders do what it takes to protect each other,” she said in a statement.

“We’ve done it in wartime, and we’re doing it now through the global pandemic.

“Because we’ve worked together to keep safe, this year we can safely gather to mark the sacrifices of those who have served.”

Last year, thousands of Queenslanders were forced to mark the day by standing in their driveways at dawn after events were cancelled due to the risk of spreading COVID-19.
