92-year-old in terrifying home invasion

Investigations are underway after a 92-year-old woman was threatened with a knife during a terrifying break-in at her home in the state’s Western Region yesterday.

About 1.15pm on Monday, the elderly woman was on the front veranda of her home on Crown Street, Dubbo, when she heard a noise from inside the house.

Police say that as she walked back inside, she saw a man, described as being Caucasian in appearance – tall with black short hair, and a chequered scarf or tea towel covering his face – standing in the hallway.

The man produced a knife and approached the woman while demanding cash. He held the knife to her throat as he searched her clothing.

The woman hit the man with her walking stick as he fled the home, taking her debit card and a small amount of loose change.

Police were called and officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District attended and commenced inquiries.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report crime via NSW Police social media pages.
