Brisbane turns on Christmas razzle dazzle across the suburbs

With more than 80 individual free and affordable events on offer, Brisbane residents will be able to enjoy Christmas carols, festive movies in the park, Christmas craft workshops and candlelit bushwalks, Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner announced today.

Lord Mayor Schrinner (pictured, right) said the program had been organised with cost-of-living front-of-mind.

“Christmas in Brisbane is the most wonderful time of the year but it also can be an expensive, and that’s why we ensure our events are free and affordable,” Cr Schrinner said.

“Our suburban events program spreads festive cheer right across Brisbane so residents don’t have to travel far to enjoy the silly season.

“Community events like these are so important to bring family, friends and neighbours together to celebrate Christmas.”

Cr Schrinner said there were plenty of low-cost options for families to help keep the kids entertained through the school holidays.

“Our environment centres will host nature-based arts and crafts at Boondall and Karawatha, while Downfall Creek has organised the highly-anticipated Bush Christmas event,” he said.

“With live music, Christmas crafts, Australian wildlife displays and a sausage sizzle, Bush Christmas is a magical event that brings the festive spirit to McDowall.

The Council’s 33 libraries will host more than 60 Christmas-themed free events.

“Brisbane libraries have a spectacular Christmas program and I encourage residents to check it out,” he said.

“Kids can get stuck into crafts and learn how to make Christmas cards and decorations for friends and family.

“The Summer Reading Program includes a range of family-friendly events, activities, live performances and quiz-style events.

“Parents should also take the opportunity to browse our incredible range of more than 6.4 million books, magazines and physical loans.

“There’s nothing better than relaxing with some summer reading over Christmas and it’s all free with a library membership.”

“For all our inner-city residents, our Christmas in Brisbane program continues with multiple events daily.

“Limited tickets remain for The Enchanted Gardens which brings Roma Street Gardens to life with dazzling lights and projections.

“There’s also the Lott by Golden Casket City Hall Lights running every night from 8 December, the iconic 22-metre City Hall Christmas Tree and live entertainment on Queen Street through Christmas on Queen.”
