Happy 100th birthday Derek

Happy 100th birthday to Victorian veteran, Derek Hunt.

Born in Toorak, Derek joined the Australian Army in February 1942 and served in New Guinea and Balikpapan in Borneo.

He was a lieutenant with 2/9th Field Company.

After the war, Derek graduated as an architect from the The University of Melbourne and later became a Fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects.

He worked as a hospital architect and then created the Sandringham Home Advisory Service.

Later, in his eighties, Derek did house inspections for Archicentre. Owners were surprised by his diligence and ability to crawl through underfloor and roof areas to inspect construction issues.

Derek designed and single-handedly built his own house in the 1950s. He still lives there and enjoys watching the birdlife in his bush garden.

Derek credits his longevity to getting plenty of exercise.

Happy birthday Derek and thank you for your service.
