More than 7,000 free tickets have already been snapped up to view METRONET’s new C-Series prototype on display at Yagan Square these school holidays.
The prototype is the first opportunity for locals to see inside the new C-Series, with the model two-thirds of an actual railcar, weighing 16 tonnes and coming in at 14 metres long.
It includes the internal features of the C-Series including the new seating choices, USB charging points, additional information screens and an extra set of doors per carriage for faster entry and exit.
“The prototype gives locals the opportunity to get up and close with our next generation of railcars and see what exciting new features will be incorporated – people will be able to walk through it, sit in the seats and see it for themselves,” says Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti.
“We made a commitment to build our railcars locally, and we are delivering on that commitment with our facility in Bellevue almost fully complete.”
Ms Saffioti said the new 246 C-Series railcars would be built locally at the Bellevue railcar facility by Western Australian workers.
She said construction of the Bellevue railcar facility was almost complete and anticipated to be handed over to Alstom by the middle of the year.
