Post office worker charged with theft of mobile phones

A post office employee has been charged with allegedly stealing more than $6,000 worth of mobile phones from a mail consignment in Parkes.

In a statement, NSW Police allege that at around 9am on Tuesday, an employee took a consignment from the post office before placing it in his delivery van.

Australia Post were alerted that one of the mobile phones – that were due for release on Friday 20 September 2024 – was activated.

Officers attached to Central West Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

“Following inquires, about 6.40am today, police conducted a vehicle stop on Edward Street, Forbes, and arrested a 34-year-old man,” NSW Police said.

“During a search of the van, police located and seized one of the mobile phones.

“A short time later officers attended a home on Federation Boulevard, Forbes, and seized the other three mobile phones.”

The man was taken to Parkes Police Station and charged with steal property as clerk/servant over $5,000 and under $15,000.

He was given conditional bail to appear at Parkes Local Court on October 17th.
