Senator Jim Molan loses cancer battle

NSW Liberal Senator and Australian Army veteran, Jim Molan, has passed away at 72 after a two year battle with cancer.

In a public statement, his family described their loss as “immeasurable”.

“He was many things – a solider, a pilot, an author, a volunteer firefighter, and a senator. Most of all, he was an adored husband, father, grandfather, and brother,” his family said.

“Our loss is immeasurable, but we are comforted in our memories of a full life courageously lived, devoted to family and in service of the country he loved.

“We thank you for your thoughts and prayers, and for respecting our privacy at this difficult time.”

The former major general served 40 years in the Australian Army before entering the senate in 2017.

He is survived by his wife, Anne and four children.

In a tweet shortly after hearing the news of Senator Molan’s passing, Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese said the Army veteran has lived his life in service of our country.

“He was a man of principle and a politician of conviction. My condolences to his loved ones, colleagues and friends,” said Mr Albanese.
