Minister extends condolences to family of miner killed in collapse

Queensland Minister for Resources, Scott Stewart has extended his condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of a 62-year-old man who died in an underground mine collapse in central Queensland overnight.

The man was killed in the Gregory Crinum mine collapse that occurred around midnight, while a 25-year-old colleague was flown to Rockhampton Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition with crush injuries to his legs and pelvis.

“I also hope for a full and speedy recovery for the man who was injured,” said Minister Stewart.

“I would like to recognise the professionalism of first responders, including those from the Queensland Mines Rescue Service and our emergency services.”

The Minister said three officials from the Queensland Mines Inspectorate were on site and had begun an investigation into the nature and cause of the incident.

“Any loss of life on our mine sites is unacceptable, and it is my expectation the Queensland Mines Inspectorate and Resources Safety and Health Queensland will investigate this incident thoroughly and with diligence,” Mr Stewart said.

Operations at the Crinum mine have been suspended while the investigation is underway.
