Daceyville aged care home records first COVID death

NSW has recorded 301 new locally-acquired cases of COVID-19 and a further 10 deaths in the past 24 hours, including one death at an aged care home in Sydney’s eastern suburbs – the first for the facility.

Of the deaths, two people were in their 50s, two people were in their 60s, two people were in their 70s, three people were in their 80s and one person was in their 90s.

Three people were from south western Sydney, two people were from southern Sydney, two people were from south eastern Sydney, one person was from the Central Coast, one person was from the Newcastle area, and one person was from the Cessnock area.

Five people were not vaccinated, one person had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and four people had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, NSW Health said in a statement.

“A woman in her 80s from south western Sydney died at Liverpool Hospital, where she acquired her infection. This is the 12th death linked to this outbreak. She was not vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.”

“A man in his 80s from south eastern Sydney died at Prince of Wales Hospital, where he acquired his infection. He had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions.

“A man in his 90s died at Prince of Wales Hospital. He was a resident of the Southern Cross Care Daceyville aged care facility, where he acquired his infection. This is the first death linked to an outbreak at the facility. He had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions,” the health authority said.

“NSW Health extends its sincere condolences to their loved ones.”

There are currently 619 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 137 people in intensive care, 71 of whom require ventilation. There were 69,107 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 66,311.
