Driver charged after woman, 66, struck by truck

A truck driver has been charged with dangerous driving after a 66-year-old woman was allegedly struck by a truck in Sydney’s inner west yesterday.

Police say that at around 10.50am on Monday, emergency services were called to City West Link Road in Lilyfield, following reports a pedestrian had been struck by a truck.

“On arrival, officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command found the pedestrian, a 66-year-old woman, suffering serious injuries,” NSW Police said in a statement this morning.

“She was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.”

The male truck driver was not injured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing. The truck was also seized for forensic examination.

The man was later taken to Newtown Police Station, where he was charged with dangerous driving occasion grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous, negligent driving occasion grievous bodily harm, and not stop at stop line at red light (not toll booth).

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on September 26th.

His licence was also suspended.
