Let’s get ready to connect!

During Queensland Seniors Month 1- 31 October hundreds of event organisers will host more than 1,000 inclusive events and activities.

“It has been really exciting to be part of the growth from Seniors Week into now the second annual Queensland Seniors Month for the whole of October,” says Lisa Hodgkinson, Seniors Month Coordinator at COTA Queensland.

“The month-long celebration will provide opportunities for Queenslanders of all ages, cultures and abilities, to connect inclusive events and activities. Simply put it’s going to be a connect fest!

“It’s also a great time to explore programs and activities, and support services.”

Starting today, 1 October, the United Nations International Day of Older Persons Queensland’s Seniors Month will include National Grandparents Day, on 30 October before ending on 31 October 2022.

The continued theme of Social Connections remains incredibly relevant as these connections are essential at any age.

Feeling socially connected, can provide great health benefits and improve your quality of life.

Whether it be attending a dance or a cooking class, a morning tea or concert, sharing a meal, an experience, a passion, or just having a chat with a neighbour over the fence, we simply feel good when we connect.

This year the Queensland Government is supporting 108 events and activities, sharing in $100,000 funding.

From dance events in the Lockyer Valley, to Yeppoon’s Vive la France Day, the Human Book exchanges where people can ‘borrow’ an older person to hear their wisdom and life experience, o dinners and dances. Information stalls and expos, to sport days and come and try’s –there really is a great variety of low to no-cost events and activities on offer.

We are continuing to add events into the calendar daily and we invite you to check back often, said Lisa.

The calendar can overwhelm if you try to view it as whole so, you may want to change the view from a map to the month or a week.

You can also filter the calendar by city, event category, and tag (Seniors Month, Sunday Roast, Queensland mental Health Week, and Get Online Week), and search by key words like movie, dance etc.

Let’s come together Queensland, it’s going to be a connect fest!
