Would-be St Kilda burglar wanted by police

Detectives from the Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit are hoping to identify a man following two attempted aggravated burglaries in St Kilda East.

Investigators have been told the man attempted to force entry into a Balaclava Road home at around 1.15pm on May 9.

A 43-year-old man, who was home with his child, confronted the offender who then fled the scene on foot, police said.

A short time later, police believe the same man attempted to force entry to another residence on Goathlands Street via a back door.

“He was disturbed by a 74-year-old female occupant and jumped over a neighbour’s fence in order to get away,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

Investigators have today released CCTV footage and images of the man who they believe can assist with their enquiries.

The man is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, aged in his 30s, medium build, with short dark hair.

He was wearing a black jumper with a white motif on the front, grey shorts and black and white Nike runners.

Anyone who recognises the man or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
