Police have charged a 56-year-old woman with larceny and fraud offences following inquiries into the alleged theft of stolen wallets and bank cards in the Lake Illawarra region.
It will be alleged a woman’s purse was stolen from her workplace at an aged care facility on Wallaroo Drive, Shellharbour on June 4th, with the victim’s bank cards later fraudulently used at several businesses between Gerringong and South Nowra.
“On Monday 13 June 2022, another bank card was allegedly stolen from the same facility and used fraudulently,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.
“Following inquiries, police attended the facility about 1.40pm yesterday, where they arrested a 56-year-old woman.”
During a search of the woman’s vehicle, it will be alleged police located property suspected of being stolen.
She was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where she was charged with two counts of larceny, and 14 counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.
An outstanding arrest was also executed for another alleged fraud offence.
The Thirlmere woman was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today.
