Woman, 77, arrested over fatal pedestrian crash

A pedestrian has died following an alleged hit and run in Sydney’s south west today.

Police say that at around 10am, emergency services were called to Junction Road, Leumeah, following reports of a crash.

“On arrival, officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command were told a pedestrian had been hit by a Mitsubishi sedan while exiting another vehicle before the sedan left the scene,” NSW Police said in a statement.

The pedestrian – a 46-year-old man – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital where he later died.

“Following inquiries, officers attached to PolAir located the sedan at a nearby sports centre. Officers attended and arrested the alleged driver – a 77-year-old woman – before taking her to Campbelltown Hospital for mandatory testing,” NSW Police said.

As enquiries continue, Police are urging anyone with information, dashcam footage, CCTV or any further details to contact Campbelltown Police or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
