A man will appear in court today charged after allegedly assaulting two police officers at a wedding reception in Sydney’s south overnight.
Police say that just after 10.30pm last night, emergency services were called to Mitchell Road at Cronulla following reports of a brawl outside a licensed premise.
Officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended and spoke with a number of people, issuing two men – aged 26 and 55 – with move-on directions.
The younger man failed to leave the area before punching a male Leading Senior Constable in the chest.
The man continued to resist police, pushing a male Constable onto the road and shoulder charging the male Leading Senior Constable.
Officers deployed OC spray before the man was arrested.
He was taken to Sutherland Police Station and charged with two counts of resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, refuse/fail to comply with direction, assault police officer in execution of duty (actual bodily harm) and assault police officer in execution of duty.
The Woolooware man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today.
The male Leading Senior Constable sustained injuries to his wrist and knees and was taken to Sutherland District Hospital for treatment. He has since been released.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
