Unsafe trees put bite on dog park

The Yarralumla dog park has been closed until further notice to allow for the removal of some trees which have been deemed unsafe.

City Services said the trees had been inspected by Transport Canberra and City Services’ arborists and deemed unsafe.

“An assessment by an ACT Government arborist has indicated a number of pine trees in the dog park have reached the end of their lifespan and need to be removed for safety reasons, particularly with the weather expected to deteriorate over the weekend,” it said in a statement.

Dog owners are encouraged to use the nearby dog parks in:

  • O’Connor, off Fairfax Street;
  • Duffy, off Warragamba Avenue.

City Services said the trees would be replaced in the future to ensure those who use the park and their canine friends are provided with shade.

“The ACT Government would like to thank locals and dog park users for their patience, with the park expected to reopen in early November 2020.”
