Two dead in Salamander Way crash

Police are investigating a fatal two-car crash in Port Stephens yesterday that killed a 77-year-old woman her 80-year-old male passenger.

Officers say that at about 2pm on Wednesday, a Toyota Aurion travelling north along Port Stephens Drive and a Holden Commodore travelling west along Salamander Way collided at a roundabout.

Police say three people were trapped at the scene for a short time following the crash.

NSW Ambulance paramedics commenced CPR on the Toyota driver, a 77-year-old woman, and her passenger, an 80-year old man, however they both died at the scene.

The Holden driver, a 44-year-old man, was treated at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for a head injury in a stable condition.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attended and have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
