Trio don COVID masks in violent home invasion

A couple in their 60s have endured a terrifying ordeal overnight after a violent home invasion in Sydney’s south-west.

Police say that just before 8pm on Tuesday, the pair – aged 67 and 66 – and two other people – a man aged 36 and a woman aged 26 – were at a Greenwood Avenue home in Bankstown, when three armed men entered the rear yard of the property.

Police say the armed trio were wearing surgical masks and high visibility vests.

“The two male residents were bound with cable ties before being assaulted,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The group demanded money before ransacking the house and leaving the scene over the back fence and were last seen entering a black Mazda.

“Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The 67-year-old and 36-year-old men were taken to Bankstown Hospital and treated for cuts and grazes and remain in a stable condition.
