Woman, 66, sexually assaulted

A 19-year-old man is assisting Queensland Police with their inquiries following investigations into the sexual assault of a 66-year-old woman in Cranbrook this morning.

Police say that just before 6am today, the woman was walking on a pathway next to the river near Victor Street when she was confronted by a man and sexually assaulted.

The woman suffered serious facial injuries and was transported to the Townsville University Hospital for treatment.

Police established a crime scene near the river walkway at Cranbrook.

A 19-year-old man was taken into custody and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
