Teacher, 57, charged over sexual touching of student

A 57-year-old school teacher has been charged over the alleged sexual touching of a student in Sydney’s south-west last year.

Police say they commenced an investigation into the casual teacher in September last year, following reports a female student had been sexually touched by a teacher at a school in Sydney’s south-west.

Following extensive inquiries, a 57-year-old man was arrested at a home in Sydney’s Inner West.

“He was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with sexual touching child aged between 10 and 16, and common assault,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Police will allege in court that an 11-year-old girl was sexually touched by a casual teacher in September last year.”

The man was formally refused bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court today.
