A man has been arrested after a traffic stop in Seaton where police found ammunition and a stolen firearm in the man’s vehicle.
Police say that at about 2.15am this morning, Western District patrols stopped a Toyota corolla sedan on Matthews Avenue at Seaton for a random driver test.
Police had cause to search the vehicle and located an ice pipe, a shotgun cartridge and a firearm in the boot.
Police investigations revealed that the sawn-off shotgun had been stolen from a Yorke Peninsula address during a break-in back in 2011.
Further inquiries led police to an address at Largs Bay. A search of the home, with the assistance of PD Indi, resulted in police locating a number of shotgun cartridges, a small quantity of fireworks, a slingshot and a machete.
A 35-year-old man from Largs Bay was arrested and charged with possessing a firearm without a licence, possessing ammunition, two counts of carrying an offensive weapon and possessing a prohibited weapon.
He was refused police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
