Station upgrade for Kilmore

$1 million worth of upgrade works are underway at Kilmore East Railway Station on Victoria’s North East Line.

Minister for Public Transport, Ben Carroll said the project was part of the government’s $328.4 million investment in critical public transport and roads maintenance and upgrades.

“Kilmore East is one of 16 key stations to receive a share in a $24 million package to support jobs and deliver improved facilities for passengers along the north-east corridor,” said Mr Carroll.

The works, totalling more than $988,000, will be rolled out in stages, and continue into 2021.

“We’re hitting the ground running with these important projects – supporting regional communities that need it most and ramping up our response to the coronavirus pandemic,” he said.

“We continue to see growth in the north-east area so we’re delivering upgrades that passengers have asked for to help improve their travel experience.”

The Minister said the initial works will see the façade of the station receive a fresh coat of paint and landscaping in the station carpark precinct will be improved to make the precinct more inviting for passengers. Upgrades will also be made to the existing car park for passengers with accessibility needs to help improve access to and from the station.

The station’s lighting is set to be upgraded at the start of next year and planning is underway for an upgraded shelter, improved public announcement system on the station platform, and refurbished bathroom amenities.

“This package of works will be rolled out later in 2021 once detailed design work is completed,” said Mr Carroll.

He said work crews would continue to follow strict protocols as set out by the Department of Health and Human Services on work sites to protect the health and safety of workers and the community during the works.
