State of Origin hat-trick for Perth

The hosting honours for game two of the 2025 NRL State of Origin series have been confirmed today, with the match to be played at Perth’s Optus Stadium.

The State of Origin is a three-match series between two of Australia’s biggest sporting rivals – the Queensland Maroons and NSW Blues – and touted as one of the biggest annual sporting contests in the country.

Next year’s event marks State of Origin’s third visit to Perth.

“State of Origin is one of sport’s greatest rivalries, and the highest level of representative rugby league that Australia has to offer,” said WA Premier, Roger Cook.

“This series has everything that is great about rugby league – world-class athleticism and skill, incredible spectacle and loyal and passionate fans – so it’s no wonder that past State of Origin matches held at Optus Stadium have attracted thousands of interstate and even international visitors to WA.

“This epic clash between the Maroons and Blues is also another fantastic chance for Western Australian fans to enjoy the pinnacle of rugby league magic, right on their doorstep.”

Previous matches in 2019 and 2022 both attracted crowds of close to 60,000, with the more recent match in 2022 generating $13.3 million for the local economy from the nearly 7,000 people who travelled from outside WA to attend.

Game two’s announcement comes off the back of recent NRL blockbusters in Perth, including this year’s sellout match between the Sydney Roosters and Dolphins at HBF Park and the Optus Stadium doubleheader last year which brought over the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Cronulla Sharks, Newcastle Knights and Dolphins.

Perth will also host a State of Origin match again in 2028.

Tickets for game two of the 2025 series in Perth, to be held on Wednesday, 18 June 2025, go on sale this Friday, 22 November.

“State of Origin is a well-known sporting rivalry that has a passionate fan base across Australia, and it’s phenomenal to be hosting one of the three games here in Perth once again next June,” said Sport and Recreation Minister, David Templeman.

“After phenomenal results when we hosted State of Origin games in 2019 and 2022, WA has proven that this epic showdown between the Blues and Maroons will always be met with a packed stadium, so I encourage fans to get their tickets before they miss out.”
