The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has welcomed the first fully electric vehicle to its fleet, with the introduction of the Kia EV6 GTLine Highway Patrol car today.
The QPS says the 1980s-look design inspiration behind the bright yellow concept vehicle is a nod to the rich history of the State’s Highway Patrol, whilst acknowledging the organisation’s emerging electric future.
The launch coincides with State of Origin at Suncorp Stadium tonight and its first tasking will be to escort the Queensland team from their hotel to the game.
As well as the retro yellow exterior, the interior of the car has been decked out in maroon in support of the Queensland Maroons side.
The QPS has purchased five of the high performance, high visibility concept vehicles that it says will be rotated through specific policing divisions across Queensland.
