Sleeping man robbed of $4,000

A man has been charged after allegedly stealing a sleeping 63-year-old man’s bank card and withdrawing $4,000 in the state’s south.

Police say that at around 4.30am last Wednesday, two men allegedly broke into a motel room on Wagga Road, Lavington, and stole personal belongings.

“It’s alleged the items belonged to a 63-year-old man who is undergoing ongoing medical treatment and was asleep in the room at the time,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The matter was reported to police and officers from Murray River Police District commenced inquiries.

“Following inquiries, about 5.45pm yesterday, a 25-year-old man was arrested at the same motel and taken to Albury Police Station.”

He was charged with aggravated break and enter and two counts of obtain financial benefit by deception.

The man was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today.

“It’s alleged the younger man used the older man’s bank cards at numerous locations and withdrew $4,000 from a nearby ATM,” police said.

Inquiries are continuing to locate the second man.
