Shady and Basil on hunt for new homes

Senior by age, sweet by nature – two feline friends, Shady (left) and Basil, are ready to find their forever homes.

Seniors Week, which runs from the 11th-21st of March, could prove the perfect opportunity to showcase what makes Shady and Basil truly ‘golden oldies’.

Currently residing at RSPCA NSW’S Behaviour and Rehabilitation Centre, located in Somersby, Shady and Basil are described as “two charming felines with an abundance of life to live and love to give, all that’s missing for them is the perfect home”.

“Shady is an 8-year-old tabby who loves nothing more than watching the world go by from his comfy window perch and batting around his beloved rainbow spring toy. Though a little shy around new people, he becomes quite the cuddly love-bug once he gets to know you,” RSPCA NSW says.

His neighbour, Basil, is another gorgeous tabby fond of snoozing the day away.

“Unlike Shady, this eight-year-old girl prefers a more independent lifestyle with someone who can shower her with affection and attention on her own terms. Whilst Basil may not be as playful as her neighbour, Shady, she still enjoys the occasional game, particularly if it involves chasing after a feather or two!”

The RSPCA says both cats have faced their fair share of challenges, including the loss of their teeth. Despite their dental woes, these resilient felines have not let their circumstances dampen their spirits. Instead, they have emerged with a newfound appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, such as delicious roast chicken, soaked biscuits, and all the soft treats they can eat.

Shady and Basil are both ready to start the next chapter of their lives. Though great RSPCA neighbours, each are eagerly waiting to find their own separate families.

If you have room in your home and heart for either Shady or Basil, please get in touch with the team at BARC on (02) 4372 2044 or by filling out an expression of interest online. Both cats would suit a quieter, calmer household.

Senior’s Card holders can receive a 50% discount when they adopt an animal at least eight-years-of age from RSPCA NSW with our Seniors for Seniors Program, of which both Shady and Basil are eligible. Contact BARC or visit www.rspcansw.org.au to find out more.
