Seven teens arrested over stolen car spree

Police have arrested seven teenagers after a stolen car spree on the Gold Coast this morning that ended with police deploying road spikes.

Police say that at around 8.15am, a stolen Toyota Prado was spotted on Reserve Road at Upper Coomera.

“Police tracked the Prado which was travelling in company with an alleged stolen Mazda,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

Police deployed road spikes to stop the Mazda at Fairways Drive, Clear Island Waters, which resulted in the vehicle coming to a halt at Genoa Street, Surfers Paradise.

The two occupants – a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy – were taken into custody at the scene.

“Whilst attempting to remove the 14-year-old driver from the vehicle, the boy sustained a minor laceration to his leg and the arresting officer sustained cuts to his arm from the vehicle’s broken glass window,” Police said.

The boy was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition while the officer received first-aid at the scene.

“Meanwhile, police continued to track the Prado to the Pacific Motorway at Yatala where it was abandoned at Exit 41 around 11.05am.”

Two teens – a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl – were taken into custody at the scene; however three other teens ran into nearby bushland.

“Dog Squad officers patrolled the area and located a 17-year-old boy hiding in bushes. The boy sustained a bite from a police dog and was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment to a puncture wound to his groin,” Police said.

During further patrols of the area, police located a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman around 12.30 nearby who were also arrested.
