Police are appealing for information from the public after a schoolgirl was shoved to the ground by a stranger at Glebe yesterday in what is the second such incident of violence by a stranger against a child in the suburb this week.
Officers from Leichhardt Police were told the girl was pushed over by a man near the intersection of Cowper Street and Glebe Point Road about 9.15am on Thursday.
The nine-year-old girl sustained a sprained ankle and a bump to the head after she was reportedly pushed from behind onto the footpath.
Police have been told a man – unknown to the girl – laughed after pushing her to the ground. He was last seen running off on Glebe Point Road towards Broadway.
The man is described only as being 190cm tall, wearing a black hoodie and witnesses say he limped on his left leg.
As investigations continue, Leichhardt Police Area Command Crime Manager Detective Chief Inspector Grant Watson, appealed for public assistance to help identify the man.
“The unprovoked assault of a child is unacceptable, and we urge anyone who was in the Glebe Point Road area yesterday – and may have witnessed the incident or saw the man running – to contact police,” Det Ch Insp Watson said.
“Motorists driving by who have dashcam fitted in their vehicle may have captured footage of the man, which could help police with the investigation,” he said.
